Abstract

Research Background: Based on the data of WHO in 2013, cancer becomes the second cause of mortality in the world for 13% after cardiovascular. One thing that can be done to decrease the number of breast cancer incidence is by doing self-breast examination. Research Purpose: The research was to figure out the relationship between knowledge level about breast cancer and self-breast examination behavior on the fourth semester students of D III Midwifery Study Program at STIKES „Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Research Method: The research used analytic observational method with cross sectional approach. Questionnaire was used as the research instrument. The populations were 172 respondents, while the samples were 120 respondents. Research Findings: 40.8% respondents have good knowledge level about breast cancer and good self-breast examination behavior. Kendall Tau analysis test result obtains the Sig value (? value) of 0.001<0.05. The result shows that there is a relationship between knowledge level about breast cancer and self-breast examination behavior on the fourth semester students of Midwifery Study Program at STIKES „Aisyiyah Yogyakarta with low correlation coefficient of 0.279. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge level about breast cancer and self-breast examination behavior on the fourth semester students of Midwifery Study Program at STIKES „Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Suggestion: It is expected that campus can develop curriculum and improve the knowledge transfer about breast cancer and its early detection by self-breast examination (SADARI) so that students can improve their knowledge and skills in applying it.
