Abstract

Children’s jealousy and aversion normally happen in a family, yet it will become a problem if mothers do not anticipate. Sibling rivalry can be avoided if mothers anticipate long before their pregnancy with positive efforts directed to their children. This research aimed at describing mothers’ effort to overcome sibling rivalry among their children. This is a descriptive research with cross sectional time approach. There were 71 samples as the respondents from 240 populations. Data collection was done through closed questionnaire with as many as 48 item questions. The research findings shows that effort to overcome sibling rivalry based on elder sibling’s age is 39% in good category and 15,5% in bad category; based on younger sibling’s age is 54,9% in good category and 14,1% in bad category; based on respondent’s age is 54,9% in good category and 14,1% in bad category; based on education is 54,9% in good category and 12,7% in bad category; based on occupati on is 25,4% in good category and 8,5% in bad category. It is suggested that the related Posyandu (Center for Mothers and Children Health Service) use media to promote health especially about sibling rivalry to mothers in order to anticipate elder sibling’s problem in response to a newly-born sibling through posters and leaflets to ensure the quality of health information, especially for early handling of sibling rivalry among children under five years old
