Abstract

There are many changes occurred during menopause; therefore, anxiety, which especially caused by the thought related to the purpose of the rest of life, most often occur. This situation may result in a high level of stress. The research aims at determining the factors influencing premenopausal women anxiety in dealing with menopause in Gulon Village, Srihardono, Pundong, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The research was conducted during March 2011. This research employs a descriptive research design with the cross-sectional time approach. The population of this research is premenopausal women in Gulon Village Srihardono Pundong Bantul and the criteria is premenopausal women aged 40-45 who have not experienced menopause. The population of these premenopausal women consists of 70 people. The sampling technique employed is purposive sampling with as many as 70 respondents. The data collection technique is done using questionnaires. The results show that out of 70 respondents, the majority of them experience anxiety in dealing with menopause in moderate level, that is, as many as 58 people (8.2%); based on the age, those who experience anxiety in dealing with menopause in moderate level are aged between 46-50 years, that is, 55.7% or 39 people; based on education level, those who managed until high school are 22,9% or 16 people; based on the socio-economic, those whose income is more than 750,000 is 45.7% or 32 people; and based on the culture of being treated equal, the majority of respondents have anxiety in the level of moderate, that is 51.4% or 36 people. Advice for the premenopausal women to better understand the changes that occur during menopause that will help in coping with such experience and makes it a less stressful one.
