Abstract
Background: A positive energy imbalance causes obesity, i.e., if excessive calorie intake is not proportional to calorie burning through physical activity, there is an increase in weight. Cardiorespiratory endurance is one of the components often associated with overweight and body fat tissue. Zumba has been created as a rhythmic aerobic exercise to reduce body composition, improve fitness, and perform physical activity. This type of exercise positively affects all of the body organs, helps improve calorie balance and controls weight. It also improves muscle, joint, and bone structure, reduces the risk of cancer and hypertension and improves cardiovascular function. Objective: This research aimed to know the effect of Zumba exercise on obesity and cardiovascular endurance. Research method: The research method was a narrative review research. Journal searches were conducted on online journal portals such as google scholar, PubMed, and PEDro. The inclusion criteria in the study was a full-text research journal on the influence of Zumba on obesity and cardiovascular endurance, in both English and Indonesian, and also had female respondents age 19 to 50 years published in 2010-2020. The searching resulted in six journals discussing the effects of Zumba on obesity and four journals discussing the effects of Zumba on cardiovascular endurance. The results of the study: The review result of 6 journals on obesity implied that there were better changes in body composition in the post-test in each measuring instrument used. The review results of the other 4 Zumba journals on cardiovascular endurance stated there is a better difference in cardiovascular endurance in the post-test of each measuring instrument used. Conclusion: Zumba exercises can effectively better affect body composition and cardiovascular. Tip: Zumba exercises can be done more often 3 -4 times per week to get better results.
