Abstract

Candidiasis is one of the most common fungal infections in Indonesia caused by the fungus Candida albicans. Fungal infections occur in 20-25% of the world's population and become a common infection problem encountered every day. Fungal treatment using antibiotics that are often used has unwanted side effects, so it is necessary to look for alternative treatments using natural ingredients. One of the plants that are efficacious as medicine is salak (Salacca zalacca (Gaertner) Voss). This study aims to determine the effect of bark extract (Salacca zalacca (Gaertner) Voss) as antifungal on the growth of Candida albicans. The method used literature review; literature searches were carried out through three databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed and IOP with the PICO method. The journals used in this study had provisions for the last ten years (2011-2021). The results of a literature search were obtained by twelve journals showing that bark extract (Salacca zalacca) was extracted by maceration, reflux and chemical filtration methods with 70% and 96% ethanol solvents. Salak bark extract (Salacca zalacca) contains phytochemical compounds flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, terpenoids and quinones that act as antifungal Candida albicans. Salak bark extract (Salacca zalacca) can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans fungus at the highest concentration of 15% which can inhibit 16,091 mm and is the maximum inhibitory power, an increase in concentration of 20% reduces the inhibition to 14,579 mm in the category of strong inhibition.
