Abstract

Reproductive health problems have gained attention since they affect many aspects of life and can be used as parameter of a country’s ability in its public health service administration. The study is aimed at determining the correlation of reproductive health knowledge level and menstrual hygiene behavior among female students of grade VII at Public Junior School of Piyungan 1 (SMP 1 PIYUNGAN) in Bantul Yogyakarta in 2011. The method used was analytical survey with cross sectional time approach. Data collection was carried out using questionnaire. The population of the research comprised all 120 female students of grade VII at Public Junior School of Piyungan 1 (SMP 1 PIYUNGAN) in Bantul Yogyakarta. The sampling method used was Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling which included 92 samples with certain criteria. The result of the research indicates that a correlation exists between reproductive health knowledge level and menstrual hygiene behavior among female students of Public Junior School of Piyungan l (SMP 1 PIYUNGAN) in Bantul Yogyakarta indicated by calculation of z score of 0,651. Reproductive health knowledge among female students of grade VII at SMP N 1 Piyungan falls into intermediate level of 46,74% and so does menstrual hygiene behavior of 53,26%. Suggestion : to Public Junior School of Piyungan 1 (SMPN 1 PIYUNGAN) in Bantul Yogyakarta, it can add knowledge on reproductive health and menstrual hygiene behavior during menstruation inserted in school subjects, such as Biology, health and religion in order that students have the right information and knowledge and reproduction and menstrual hygiene behavior.
