Abstract

Dysmenorrhoea in adolescents can affect not good when a limited knowledge of adolescents on dysmenorrhoea. All that can be seen on the concerns of young women when they experience dysmenorrhoea. Information from health professionals is still not optimal. Health education can be used as a way to convey information to adolescents about dysmenorrhoea. This study aims to determine the effect of dysmenorrhoea counseling can improve the knowledge of young women about dysmenorrhoea. This research uses quasi-experimental design (Quasi Experiment) with a pretest-posttest design with control group. The study population was female students of class VII and VIII in SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Yogyakarta. When the study was conducted in June 2010. The sampling technique that is each class VII and VIII taken 15 people. The number of respondents who would use the 30 girls, 15 as the experimental group and 15 as the control group. Collecting data using questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability. Statistical analysis of test data using test T-test. Results were obtained with P value 0.01 for the standard error of 5% or 0.05 which means there is significant influence between granting extension to the knowledge of symptom of dysmenorrhoea in adolescent girls eighth grade student at Junior High School 10 in Yogyakarta. Researchers recommend to the head 10 Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah junior high school that is planned to incorporate the need for educational materials on reproductive health in the curriculum on student learning at the secondary level because menstruation has occurred and the possibility of the student experience dysmenorrhoea.
